The purpose of this accreditation is to provide learners with the necessary information to understand and demonstrate the requirements for duct laying and slewing in the telecoms utility pipe networks in accordance with industry standards and practices. This accreditation sets out the skills, knowledge and understanding to support the individual to use correct equipment and methods to carry out this task safely.

Prerequisites

This accreditation is available to anyone over the age of 1who is capable of reaching the required standard.
There are no barriers that restrict access or progression thereby promoting equal opportunity. It is expected however that learners will have a level of literacy adequate to cope with the assessment. This Smart Awards accreditation is based on a pre-requisite that any work on the highway requires appropriate Street Works qualificationto be held by an individual working on site, and that this individual is qualified to check that the planned provisions and the statutory requirements of NRSWA are met.
